There are some great artists who are missing from the Country Music Hall of Fame.
How can Sonny James possibley not be in there? It took forever to get Faron Young in
there. He should have been one of the very first as Webb Pierce should have. Johnny Horton
is my personal favorite of all time and I feel he, too should be a member.
His career was tragically cut short but he certainly had every bit as much success as
Patsy Cline who is rightfully a member. I believe a case could be made for Stonewall Jackson.
Most of today's "so called" country music is absolute GARBAGE. The real artists such as Iris
Dement and Ricky Skaggs they refuse to play. What about Moe Bandy? I know he still records
because I still be his music. The worst thing that ever happend to our music was Awfulbama.
I know there are a lot of fans out here that still love country music but can't find it on
the radio anymore. How 'Bout It? Chester Willis - hortonjohnny@msn.com

Need help! I'm looking for 3 Ranch Party shows to complete my collection- - numbers 22, 25 and 38.
Because of varied numbering methods, it may be easier to ID these shows by their opening
numbers: "Turn Around Boy" by Tex Ritter; "Old New Mexico" by Johnny Bond; "Pretty Little Pink"
by the Ranch Party Gang. If anyone has these I'm willing to buy or trade. Contact me at

This is a really great site! I've been a country music fan since the late 40s and it's good to hear
from other people who appreciate GOOD country music.
I've been wracking my brain for a couple years now, trying to remember the name of a girl
singer that used to make appearances on some of the syndicated country music TV shows back in
the 70s. I believe she was from Australia and was billed as "The Queen of Country Soul". Wow!
Could she sing!!! I'd really like to know what was her name and what ever became of her.
Thanks for any info you can provide. E-mail me at dalejenni@hotmail.com -

My name is Mike Porter and I am a singer/songwriter residing in Nashville.
I have currently finished my debut album "One Last Time" and am currently in the process of
shopping for a label. I am an ASCAP member and in meetings there, my work has been compared
to artists such as Dwight Yokam , the mavericks and other rock-a-billy types of sound. I am
currently looking to find a producer in this type of area who might be able to give me
direction in my quest for a deal. My website is: http://www.mikeporteronline.com -
this provides more information about myself and displays some of my music from the album.

Do you have any information on a new singer Blain Larsen? My daughter
played me his demo tape from Nashville as far as I know he is 15 years
old. He has a voice that would bring chills to your bones. I have
listened to country music all my life I'm 48. I would like information
on this person and where I can buy his music. I think he will hit the
charts and stay #1 for a long time once people hear his voice. Just
could not believe my ears. I would thank you kindly if you could help

Gentlemen, In the hope that you can assist me, in 1973 I was stationed on Guam and
one afternoon, on the way home, the DJ played a tune by Mason Williams.
I had been playing a 5-string for several years and this song just made
me light up. We have searched ever since for an album with the song
'HAPPY BANJO' to no avail.
If you can assist me in finding the song/album I would surely appreciateit.

Boston has a reasonably active country scene and what's usually considered to be one of the
better rockabilly scenes in the US. On the country side, there's the honky-tonk tones of the
Stumbleweeds, who released an album earlier this year, the western swing/honky-tonk blend of the
Spurs (whose debut album came out last year), and the Dave Foley Band, who have released a couple
of albums over the past two or three years. There are others, too, but those three are probably
the most visible at the moment.
On the rockabilly side of things there's the Racketeers, the Raging Teens, the Cranktones,
L'il Memphis, the Speed Devils, the Bombastics (my band), the Kings of Nuthin', and a few others.

Howdy, What a great web site you have here!! I just became aware of it today, and I commend
you on your commitment to Traditional Country Music. I'm a traditional country radio DJ,
amongst other things in the biz, at WDVR in New Jersey, and as I profess on my shows ... "If It
Ain't Traditional, It Ain't Country!!" All I play is traditional country, including those
artists of today who are keeping tradition alive.
I also head up TopTrax .. America's ONLY traditional country airplay chart.
It's published on the net monthly and mailed to many of our country music legends.
The URL is http://www.tptx.net. Pay us a visit and you'll see names on that chart that you
haven't seen on any chart in 35 years or more!!
Interestingly, many of the Indie artists you've listed on this site are well known to me.
Jimmy Eaves has become a good personal friend of mine, George Day is a good
friend (I wrote nine of the songs on his CD and was executive producer of same).
Also, Moot Davis ... listed on your links page ... .got his 'start' at WDVR's Heartlands Hayride,
a live , on-air, 2-hour radio barn dance show. I was a co-producer of that show at the
time when Moot came along. The show still airs every Saturday evening, and has been on
the aire now for about 15 months.
I've got a personal commitment to present, preserve and promote traditional country,
and am pretty well known to many people in the business for my commitment,
including many of country's legends.
Keepin' it real country ...

South 65 is a present-day take on the classic country music vocal
group stamped from the mold of The Oak Ridge Boys, Restless Heart,
The Statler Brothers, and Alabama. The group, named for the Nashville
highway that leads to the recording studio where they recorded their
debut self-titled CD, features four strong vocalists (Lance Leslie,
Brent Parker, Jerimy Koeltzow, and Stephen Parker). The hot, young
quartet (four twentysomething cuties) performs with a distinctive
brand of soulfully blended harmonies echoing a broad spectrum of
musical influences. Those influences include the above-mentioned acts
as well as Diamond Rio, Vern Gosdin and George Strait.
South 65's DREAM LARGE CD features the single/video "The Most
Beautiful Girl" as well as the new single "Only Perfect." The group's
first album was released in late 1998 and included the songs "A
Random Act Of Senseless Kindness," "No Easy Goodbye," and "Baby's Got
My Number."
We are Stacy from PA and Staci from CA. We are giving you the most
updated news on South 65. Please read this post and then email any
South 65/Country Music fan that you know and urge them to purchase
the "ONLY PERFECT" Poster Package. Feel free to post our message to
other clubs/groups you belong to as well.
Thank You Very Much and Take Care,

Hello All:
The currently monthly Bop 'n' Bowl event at the Falls Church Duckpin Bowling
Lanes in Falls Church, Virginia, in the suburbs of Washington, D.C., is also
actively seeking good, rootsy-type rockin' bands!
If you happen to know a few months in advance you'll be coming through the
vicinity, consider it! Last night was the November show, and we had 250
paying customers, we had three bands playing one good long set each, (The
Peashooters, the Steubenville Knights, and the Fabulettes) and each band
made $600! Very cool!
And this is still a very developing thing! They're only just beginning to
learn about it in Japan, England, Germany, Finland, etc!
Depending on how it goes, and who wants to play, it might become twice a
month! Or it might spread to other locations!
Currently booking February, March and April! Or twist my arm about January!

I am looking for information on the Al Gannaway 35mm movies from mid-50's that were transferred
to VHS tapes. At one time there were two 12-volume sets available for purchase, but I can't
find anything listed on these now. Would anyone
know if they can still be purchased? Or if anyone might have these available,
either to buy or copy?
These movies were also used to make 1/2 hour TV shows called Classic Country.
Some PBS stations carried these shows. I wonder if anyone might have taped
them? I taped about 60 shows back in the 80's.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

The October cyberversion of my publication, thebridgeworks, is up on
my website, members.onlin-pro.com/billlittleton/ and I invite anyone
who might care to to take a look -- if you want to see the hardpaper
version, send me a snail address and you will! I spent most of
thirty years writing for publications controlled by other people,
most of whom did not know my subject matter as well as I did, so when
the Lord led me out of PERFORMANCE and I took a little time off to
heal up (literally), it made sense to do a publication where the
editorial committee at any given point was the person involved
(either as a subject or as the writer) and me -- it is amazing how
fresh that approach can make every issue. I'm particularly
interested in input from this group for our Etched In Gray Matter
series; there are none in the current issue, but if you want to see a
couple, let me know off list and I'll zap 'em to you -- that way we
won't tie up a lot of list space. Bill Littleton -

The only information she had to give to me was .... His name is Kenny Price.
He use to perform on Hee Haw back in the 70's.
She's trying to find the title of a song he sang ....
the only words she gave me were something like this ..... "Birds and Children fly away ...
that's nature's plan...etc.
Sorry I don't have more to give you.

The Bob Smiley Band @ The Station Inn
Friday, September 28th at The Station Inn, Nashville, TN
Come on out to The Station Inn, 402, 12th Avenue South in Nashville, TN
on Friday night and catch The Bob Smiley Band. We'll be showcasing cuts
from our upcoming CD, 'Don't Give Up The Farm.' This is not your
grandfather's bluegrass. It's hard driving, high energy, dynamic
American music; bluegrass, new acoustic and acoustic country. The
Nashville Rage magazine calls it 'feel good roots music.' They're
right. The band features Tom Saffell on 5 and 8 string banjo, Marilyn
Barclay on acoustic bass, Tim May on mandolin and guitar, myself on
guitar and, of course, special guests. The show starts at 9 pm or a
little after. Come on out and join us and don't forget to say hi while
you're there ... Bob - robtsmiley@yahoo.com

(SEE MESSAGE BELOW THIS ONE).
Here is the response from one of the WMA people. They've defined "vision
statement". Some more double-duty babble.
Two sticklers for facts who are deeply appreciated - BUT FIRED.
A new draft of our mission statement, amended to be even more specific,
was distributed for comment, review, and possible Board action. If
anything, our mission may be expanded.
BUT THE BOARD'S INPUT WAS DISMISSED AS "MICRO-MANAGING" (TRANSLATION:
BUTTING INTO THINGS WE WANT TO DO SINCE WE'RE RUNNING IT).
The Board is also looking at a vision statement, something we haven't had
before now.
WHAT THE HELL IS A VISION STATEMENT?
a) They're seeing visions of their own importance?
b) They're seeing visions of more money from special interest donors?
c) They are just hallucinating on their own limited view power trip?
d) You may add as many more as you like.
Also, the country music discography authored by Tony Russell and edited by
Bob Pinson (tentatively titled The Complete Country Music Discography:
1922-1942), will be delivered to Oxford University Press for publication
in 2002.
THAT'S NICE TO KNOW. I have a sheet from Amazon showing it as being
released 2 years ago and then an order response from Borders saying it's
been discontinued. Nice to know we'll see Doug's book and the
discography at about the same time - After these jerks have killed
country music in favor of Nashville Pap, Tennessee Rock and other types
of hyper-mixed droning drivel.
But folks! It's from Nashville it must be country. Cow manure is
country but they can't make as much from that kind of sh*t.
We are absolutely committed to our historic reissue record label.
INTERESTING - A few years ago there were several issues, including Sons
of the Pioneers cassette or early Decca, a Rockabilly set, a special 2-lp
set of Bob Wills fiddle recordings from the Columbia archives but I have
been unaware of any in the last few years. I guess they are not
interested in advertising them beyond their own publications which
loses a lot of interested buyers who are less prone to read the journal
as it becomes less a conservatory of history and tradtion and more a
shill for the big money labels and marketers.
AH YES - The executioner eulogizes his victims.

Dear Dr. Wolfe,
I share your respect and appreciation for Ronnie Pugh and Chris Dickinson,
two sticklers for the facts who each made important contributions here and
who are deeply appreciated.
Your concern for the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum's historic
mission is also appreciated. I assure you that our mission has not changed.
In fact, at the regularly scheduled third quarter board meeting of our Board
of Officers and Trustees on Thursday, September 13, a new draft of our
mission statement, amended to be even more specific, was distributed for
comment, review, and possible Board action. If anything, our mission may be
expanded. The Board is also looking at a vision statement, something we
haven't had before now.
Also, the country music discography authored by Tony Russell and edited by
Bob Pinson (tentatively titled The Complete Country Music Discography:
1922-1942), will be delivered to Oxford University Press for publication in
2002.
The Journal of Country Music, which has always occupied a unique position
here, will continue to be published. A special issue devoted to Texas music
is now in production and complements our first limited engagement exhibit,
Nashville Salutes Texas: Country From the Lone Star State.
As you have noted, Bob Pinson had been easing into retirement now for a
number of years. Ronnie Pugh, who most recently served as an associate
researcher in the special projects division, had not been a part of the
library staff for two years.
The Library and Media Center staff includes Lauren Bufferd, library
director; Denny Adcock, photo curator; Dawn Oberg, reference librarian;
Becky Miley, associate librarian; and Alan Stoker, curator of audio and
visual collections. Museum curators include Mark Medley and Dan Cooper.
Museum Services includes Diana Johnson, Paul Kingsbury, Brian Hedges, and
historian, John Rumble. Our collection is in excellent hands.
Our goal is to make the collection accessible to the largest number of users
possible. In this new age, it is possible to do that in ways that were
unimaginable when the museum opened 34 years ago. Research, interpretation,
and analysis by knowledgeable historians and scholars such as yourself are
the cornerstone of our mission. We are absolutely committed to our historic
reissue record label and to the continued publication of fine works such as
Good Natured Riot: The Birth of the Grand Ole Opry.
I am glad to see support for Ronnie and Chris and join you in wishing them
both well. I am also glad to talk with you at any time about the Country
Music Hall of Fame and Museum's mission and focus. It's a complicated place
and we need the understanding of all of our constituents. You may also
contact our Board Chairman, Bud Wendell, at 4215 Harding Road, PH-6,
Nashville, TN 37205, or our President, Marty Stuart, at M.S. Tours, 119 17th
Avenue South, Nashville, TN 37203.
Sincerely,
Kyle Young

This is a studio project and brand new at that, but may I recommend Rebel Records'
CLINCH MOUNTAIN SWEETHEARTS by Ralph Stanley And Friends, the friends being over a
dozen women as distinct from each other as Joan Baez and Dolly Parton, Pam Tillis
and Gail Davies, Iris Dement and Valerie Smith, and the list goes on.
I reviewed it in the current thebridgeworks and stressed that NOBODY seems
out of place. There have been a handful of "various artists" albums (especially
featuring Ralph, Monroe, etc) that emphasize the anchor role of "old time music
that they call bluegrass these days" (a quote from Ralph) and THIS could be THE
definitive affirmation of the anchor role. Bill -

Hi guys,
Just to let you know my record "Cant Stop Me From Dreaming" is out this week and includes
several western swing tracks (including the title track) recorded in Toronto this past winter.
Mostly drawing from the Light Crust Doughboys sound you will find several wonderful
musicians backing my vocals, including the wonderful Jeff Healey playing a great guitar,
Hot Peter Ecklund on trumpet, Erin Solomon on fiddle, Great Chris Whitely on pedal steel,
as well as Colin Bray on the gut string double bass, Roberta Hunt on piana', and Jesse
Barksdale on guitar. In the western vein you will find, *You Can't Stop Me From Dreaming,
*I Had Someone Else Before I had you * It's all Your Fault, and *Careless....
I am anxious to know what the real country fans think of our treatments! This is
really kick ass music! ALEX PANGMAN (and her Hep Hired Hands) www.alexpangman.com

RE: Anne Murray. Hello Everyone, From time to time, I like to invite our new and existing members
to visit the video archive that I've assembled on "Anne!" For those of you familiar with the
set, it's an "excellent" retrospective of her wonderful career!
Nearly "two and a half hours" worth of interviews, personal appearances, and musical
performances dating back to the early 80's. The set contains moments from the following programs:
"Grammy Awards" "Entertainment Tonight" "Academy of Country Music Awards" "John Denver
Christmas Special" "Pat Sajak Show" "The Joan Rivers Show" "Tribute to Ralph Emery"
"Country Music Awards" "TNN StarCatcher" "Boston Pops" "TNN Monday Night Concerts"
"Christmas in Washington" and "Regis and Kathie Lee." And a very special "Coverstory"
about Anne's life and career. The collection also includes two of her Specials: "Winter
Carnival from Canada" and "Sounds of London" ( which features Dusty Springfield ).
There are also several of her videos: "Time don't run out on me" "Who's leaving who"
and "Flying on your own." Musical highlights include the following selections,
performed various times on the assorted shows: "That's not the way it's suppose to be,
Snowbird, You needed me, You won't see me,!
A little good news, I'm still standing, Karma Chameleon, Start me up, Modern Love,
Sweet Dreams, Every breath you take, Wishin' and hopin', I only wanna be with you,
Downtown, A kind of hush, Just you and I, It's the two of us, Another sleepless night,
Time don't run out on me, In my life, Nobody loves me like you do, Winter Wonderland, The
Christmas Song, If I ever fall in love again, I just fall in love again, Shadows in the
moonlight, Could I have this dance, Somebody's always saying goodbye, and What would it take."
A full description of all these moments, along with "photos" so you can see how she
looked during each, can be found at the webpage devoted to her! I hope you'll visit
this wonderful trip down memory lane! Thank you! Jeff -

Just watched hte movie about Patsy Cline and wondered what ever happened to her husband and
her children. I don't believe anyone has ever come close to the voice she had.

Randy Travis will have be releasing his first "live" album this fall.
Should be a good 'un! It's unfortunate that today's country radio stations don't
appreciate his talent and give his new music any airplay. They're too busy playing all
of that crap from nameless/faceless artists who all look and sound alike and sing pathetic
cliche' ridden fluff embellished with rock guitar riffs. Country music has never been in
worse shape than it is right now - with no signs of improvement. God help us. -KEN
EDITOR'S NOTE: We are looking for veteran traditional country performers to list and
promote within this site. The "Traditional Country Hall of Fame" is also interested in posting information
on anyone who helped create and
retain the roots of country music throughout the years. This could mean you, a family member, or someone
you admire.
Through this website, known and unknown recording atrists, performers, sidemen,
songwriters, producers, record labels, venue owners, promoters, fans, etc. are all welcome to e-mail and
submit their
story to the world. It's your chance to brag without feeling guilty, because our readers are waiting
to hear all about YOU!
Thanks, Bob Timmers, site manager. -
