This may just be a rumor, but I belive it is true. "Jamboree USA" in Wheeling, West Virginia is owned by Comcast and is being closed. I belive this because there are no shows scheduled after January, 2006 and I think that if this happens it will be another step against Country music. Jamboree USA has been around since the early 1900's and is a great place to go see good country music shows. Comcast also refuses to carry "GAC" (the channel that carries the Grand Ole Opry) on their cable system. Slowly but surely access to country music is being limited and I'd like to know why? I am trying to find out some information on the Grand Ole opry Stars of the Fifties Tribute VHS collection by Al Gannaway. I know there were 12 volumes, but is this the only collection available of the Opry in the Fifties? I have been trying to find a listing of the songs that Tommy Collins wrote. I have been through search engine after search engine. I was a fan as a 9 year old in 1954, when I heard "You Better Not Do That." I became a bigger fan after meeting Tommy in Korea 10 years later during his USO tour there. He invited me to join him in Bakersfield when my tour was up, an invitation I acted on without hesitation.
           I do know other artists have recorded material by Tommy, and am able to find out a few songs here and there, but would really like to have a complete listing of the songs he wrote, and those which were recorded by others. I have the "Leonard" box set which tells me most of the songs he recorded, but the booklet that accompanied it has been lost in one of many moves I have made.
           If you can be of any help, or steer me in the right direction, I would appreciate it. Thanking you in advance, I remain:

Back around 1943 Texas Jim Robertson performed at our theatre in Jamaica, N.Y. I fell in love with his voice and style. He signed my autograph book, and from then on I was hooked. I went once to see him perform on radio, and also found out where his wife lived in Nyack. She invited me and my girlfriends to spend a day or two at their home while Jim was by then in the Marines. We met their little girl. We had a lovely time. Several years later I found out his daughter had been killed by a car. My name is Fabris G. Luca, 39 years old. I'm an Elvis researcher expecially on the early days. Mainly all these researches are in relation to a book/CD project for the Elvis fan club network I've been asked to help.It's a 3/4 CD 200 pages book about Elvis stay at SUN records done by Ernst Jorgensen which I'm now helping detailing the period from July of 1954 through the end of 1955. Ernst is BMG chief at Elvis music archive. The book will consist of more than 400 early photos - half of them previously unpublished. It's not an attempt of once again write the story of Elvis Presley, but more a collection of information, photos, memorabilia and stories shared by fans who where there at the time. The book will not deal in gossip or other unpleasant material it's all about the innocence of the time and the impact of Elvis' music. We are trying to document every single show Elvis did, and we have come fairly close. So I'm looking for photos,recordings from Louisiana Hayride or Opry, or any live radio gig or interview .... ANYTHING IS WELCOME FROM THE50s!! And Elvis played the Mississippi area a lot during 1955 but we have very few info and no photos at all! I remember a song in the 1950's called "All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth", which I think was sung by a juvenile singer named Jimmy Boyd. Can anyone confirm this for me?? Please! I am sending you the web site of drummer Jan Kurtis. Ernest Tubb 1959-61 Ray Price 1961-63 and 82-83. Bobby Goldsboro as drummer and manager 1970-1980. Jan along with good friend the late Dottie West planned on presenting the side man idea in the 70's to the Hall of Fame. Jan has certainly earned a chance to be with fellow peers having been in bands and sessions with Buddy Emmons, Pete Wade, Leon Rhodes, Pig Robbins, Buddy Spicher, Glen Campbell, James Burton, The Judy Lynn Show, Bobby Hicks and  most all of the sidemen already in the Hall Of Fame. Jan has played on many big country albums.  In 1962 Jan was voted the number one country drummer in Los Angeles. Jan was the producer of the timeless live recording of Ernest Tubb Live 1965. I'm trying to find out if any of Cal Worthington¹s old TV shows (Cal's Corral) are in existence on film or video.  I'm particularly interested in finding footage of a young stand-up bass player named Butch Smith who performed with the Hap Hazards in 1962.  I thought you might be able to help. Butch passed away in 1999.  I'm friends with his family who live in Hot Springs, Arkansas, and we're desperately trying to find footage of Butch during those days.  Any information you have or could suggest would be most appreciated.  Thanks! To Joshua Rowell, It has been my experience that songwring contest, do little more then cost the songwriter. A good demo of your song, and a lot of hard work will pay off quicker then anything else I know. A little luck never hurts either. Pitching your songs, (seeking others to record them) is like any other business. Location Location Location! You may consider pitching say country songs where they play and record country music. Nashville, Austin, etc. But the greatest asset you will ever have is word of mouth. I really hope you the best. From a couple of years ago, I remember seeing ads on tv for a Gannaway Production of "Grand ole Opry stars of the 1950s". I remember from these ads that these were not made with a simple video camera, but were some kind of movie tapes that were made back then. I also remember that the quality, color was excellent. Hi ya'll, Don't much get to say that in Upstate N.Y. but I justgot back from a week of heaven in Nashville, Tenn. I went for an Emergency Nurse Conference and came back home alive and revived. For the folks who have been wondering about Chris Janson, the amazing 19-year-old: Big things are starting to happen. This week there is a series of Neil Young concerts in Nashville being shot by director Jonathon Demme for a movie, and Chris is playing at these shows. A friend and I met the band when we were in town last month and heard this was in the works, that the director had come to see Chris perform - well, my friend just emailed me and said she's flying to Nashville tonight to see the last of these concerts, as a guest of one of the band members. Can anyone who knows old country/gospel singers and songs help me? My husband's birthday is in a few days and I have been trying for months to find the sheet music to an old song by Martha Carson who has sung at the Grand Ol' OPry. The song is called Satisfied. I believe that Dolly Parton also recorded it. There are others that have recorded a song by the same name (like the Beatles) but it is not the same song. The main web site I found for Martha Carson does not seem to be in use right now. I have found her mentioned on Opry history. But, none of the sheet music web pages seem to have this song. Question ... song ... Open Pit Mine ... sung by George Jones. I first heard that song in 1955 ... radio ... KHOS in Phoenix, Arizona ... The writer and singer of that song was being interview by Ray Odem live at that time ... I didn't hear it again untill this year when I heard Mr. Jones singing it. He did a beautiful job with it. Is anyone aware of a falling out between Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings that would cause Willie Nelson to NOT ATTEND Waylon Jennings funeral? Please respond, I am very curious about this. Sirs; I hope I am not violating the real purpose of the message space provided, but I feel it is at least worth a try.I'am trying to determine the whereabouts of two very dear friends.Brace yourself..this goes back a ways.We worked together in the late 40's singing and playing traditional country music.They were sisters, unmarried, named Coleen and Donna Wilson.My name is Gene Martin. Our show biz name was ,"The Beaver Valley Sweethearts" They were originally from Emporium,Pa. but moved down to the SW corner of the state which encompassed the Beaver Valley, thus the name.We broadcast from radio station WISR in Butler,Pa and made personal appearances throughout SW Pa.After some time we went seperate ways.They went to Chicago to perform on the national barn dance, retaining the Beaver Valley Sweetheart name. I remained in Pennsylvania.That was around 1948/49.I was in Chicago a couple of years after that and visited with them for a while.They were still performing on WLS and were not yet married. Regarding Leon Paynes "Psycho". I am not sure If Payne ever recorded it, but I have Eddie Noack performing it on a compilation called "Death Dealers" on the Night Stalk label. It also has Noack doing his song "Dolores" and Red River Dave doing "California Hippie Murders", which is about the Tate-LaBianca/Manson Murders. The cover is John Wayne Gacy's Elvis painting. No Kidding. Eddie Noack had both songs come out on the K-Ark label. Jack Kittel had a version of "Psycho" released on GRC in 1974. That one is I think the easier to find on 45. Happy Hunting! I need some help. I grew up in the 70's and 80's listening to WIL, a country FM station in St. Louis. They played a song that I can recall quite clearly in my head, but I have been unable to find it anywhere. It's a man talking about his wife using 'little girl/child' terms. I don't remember many of the words, but here's some parts of it I do remember:
Little-Bo-Peep-X-X-X-X-X
X-X-X-X-from-a-Tootsie-Roll-Pop
And I'm proud to say that that girl is my wife.
The X's indicate syllables to other words in the song line.
              The only words I remember from the second verse (which has the same arrangment as the first verse) is:
X-X-X-X-X-X-X-X-X-X
X-X-X-X-X-X-X-X-X-X
And she pouts like a child when she doesn't get her way
The first two lines in the chorus are:
Oh, ain't she a picture of sunshine,
kicm Ain't she a picture of sunshine.
              The last time I heard the song on this radio station was around 1987. I listened closely to see if I could tell who the artist was, and it sounded very much like Johnny Duncan. The problem is I have never heard this song on any other radio station, nor have I ever found it in the stores. I worked in country radio for a number of years and no radio station I worked at ever had a copy of it. On top of that, everyone I talked to has never heard of the song. I do know that when I was a kid, a local country band that my uncle played in performed the song at wedding receptions.
              I wonder if, perhaps, this song was a 'local hit' from a St. Louis musician and that's why I only heard it on WIL. They are still a country format even today, except since the early 90's they have switched to "Hot Country" (songs from the 90's and today), so I highly doubt that they even have the song anymore. I do know that the DJ who last played the song was the music director for WIL at the time, but he hasn't worked there in several years and I do not know how to contact him.
              I have searched the internet to death and cannot find any 'hits' containing the title or lyrics of this song. I can tell you that, although the song is from the early 70's (maybe even late 60's), it has a good 'beat' to it, which means it would have been considered 'hot country' for that period of time. I would love to know How wrote the song If Heaven? sang by Andy Griggs! It is beautiful! Ijust lost my Big Brother! He was living down in FL. I had to have it ! I looked for it everywhere! I didnt even know who sang it! I had to call our loacl radio station here in Baltimore WPOC and they told me. I want right up town to our walmart store and looked for it! i got there found the CD and realized I forgot my pocketbook so I reached into my pockets to see if I had enough on me to get it! I dug deep and I had just enough with two pennys left over. I took it out and played the song in my car, and it really helps when Im down. It is like the person sang my life. It gives me goose bumps everytime I here it the part about Mamas laugh and everyone is out there waiting in 1985 and everyone i loved was still alive! Man it hits home! It is true I lost in the last few years everyone on my Mamas side my Aunt Glady the my Mom the her sister died on a Thursday then the next Saturday there Mother finally went home to see the rest of her family my Grandmother out lived all of her children, and there was 5 kids. It was a real healer that song to my heart! Dear Friends...In September 1961, I and three other Women Marines were at the Ryman. Our friend and Woman Marine had been a clogger on the Opry and she escorted us around backstage. "Somebody" saw us as we were all in uniform, and had the four of us sit onstage in folding chairs during the entire evenings' performance...WHAT A TREAT! Hi. I remember a song from when I was little. It was by a woman. She sang a song about a little boy who could really play the banjo. He either had red hair or black (the little red head boy playing the banjo is how I remember the refrain). She loves to listen to him play, but then he disappears and she can't find him. Finally, she's at a parade and sees him playing the banjo. I just got back home (Detroit) from Nashville today, and I can't get Chris Janson out of my head. That guy is an amazing entertainer and I can't believe he hasn't been "discovered" yet. Hi, I saw a few things on here about Chris Janson, Let me tell you he is ever thing that they have said about him because he is a really good friend of mine. I met him last year at a talent contest that me and my family entered. While we was waiting to go out on stage my sister and I spent a lot of the time talking to him back stage. Then after that I ask him if we could stay in touch with each othe. From then I have got to know him pretty well. When we was back stage talking he said that he was a little afraid about moving to a big city because he really like that country life better. I was in Nashville on business 5/13/05. I saw the best talented artist I have ever seen. His name was Chris Janson and was playing at Tootie's. This 19 year old has a bright future in country music. I purchased his album, which was fantastic. I know we will be hearing his name in country music in the near future. I am from Memphis and I am planning to return to Nashville just to hear him. Hello from Illinois Iam writing to ask for some advice about being a singer I have sang Karaoke for 8 years and everyone loves the way I sing and tells me I have a wonderful voice. Summerfest set for June 15 (Ashland City, Tennessee)

              The 10th annual Summerfest Celebration is coming to Cheatham County at River Bluff Park Wednesday, June 15 to Sunday, June 19. The celebration will include vendors, concerts, a carnival and for one night a fireworks show. Summerfest was originally just a way to raise money for the county's athletic associations. ?I had to think of what I could do to help them without handing them the money,? said Tony Young, director of the recreation department. The first Summerfest was held on the courthouse yard and politicians made speeches.
              As years went by, the music festival and carnival were added, while a hayfield turned into River Bluff Park with a 20-acre event field. This year's Summerfest has 24 hours of music throughout the week. There is a wide range of music: Americana, rock, blues, country, progressive metal, and jazz. ?We have great music this year. I even had to cut some people out, because we had so many,? Young said. Many of the musicians are from Cheatham County. Mary Grace Williams, 10-years-old, will be singing country and restaurant owner, Steve Stratton, plays with the Chill Jammers. ?I was honored and I can't wait to get out there and play and hear some great music. I know that Tony and others have worked so hard to bring out some great musicians,? said Annie Mosher, Kerriville folk fest winner and a newcomer to Summerfest.
              Summerfest is also bringing in some new comers this year. Songwriters like Davis Raines are coming in from Nashville. I like Ashland City anyway. I am looking forward to seeing and playing for all the people, said Davis Ranies, traditional country singer/songwriter and another newcomer to play at Summerfest.
              Billy Stewart, son of Redd Stewart, will be performing The Tennessee Waltz to help dedicate the new parkway bearing the entertainer?s name. Redd Stewart's extended family is attending from all over the country. ?With the family coming in, that is introducing history to Cheatham County and then make it happen all over again, said Young.
              While listening to the music, people can also eat. This year, there will be grilled rib eye and pork chop sandwiches.
              The Cheatham County Central High School vocational class will have the fish fry. The vendor list includes food selections also: Sno-Cones, Texas Style Beef Brisket, shaved ice and fried pies. This is the seventh year for the carnival and 50 percent of all ticket sales will go back to the city. Boy Scout Troop 158 will work parking. Parking is free, but the boy scouts are taking donations. There are two thousand volunteers that participate in Summerfest.
              "Volunteers are what makes things happen, without them, we wouldn't have anything," said Young. The community event, Summerfest, will carry many different forms of entertainment; whither one likes food, music, or rides. "I bet anybody who comes out to the fest this year will be glad they did; who could resist the festival atmosphere, the rides, the games, the river and the entertainment," Mosher said.

I have a Cliffie Stone's HOMETOWN JAMBOREE Souvenir Album (paper-back book 10 3/4" X 8 1/2") that I got when I went to one of Mr. Stones live shows. I was 7 at the time, so it had to be '52-'53 It is signed by Cliffie Stone, Molly Bee, Buckie Tibbs, Joan O'Brian, Harry Rodkay, Speedy West, Jimmy Bryant, and Harold Hensley. It is full of pictures and stories of the many artists that performed on the show. My mother put my name and age on the cover in pencil the night I got it. To the children of Bob Atcher: I was going through old photo albums of my deceased mother and found wonderful pictures of their many visits to Ely, MN to visit with my Dad's brother, Andy Kolari. I have a beautiful black and white glossy 1953 picture of Bob Atcher and his wife taken up in Ely, Minnesota where they were fishing. They were guided by my uncle Andy Kolari. Bob caught a 17 1/2 pound northern pike. He received the Order of the Court of the Knights of the Wilderness at the Fernberg Bridge dedication dinner. The article in the Ely Fish Facts paper went out to say that Bob's to be addressed as "Sir" Bob Atcher. Are any of his children interested in this picture and news article? Earnest Tubbs didn't write rainbow at midnight, Lost John Miller from Rabun county Ga. wrote the song and sold Tubbs the rights to the song. He looks like he's about 15 but has the voice, talent and stage presence of someone at least twice his age (he just turned 19). To Norm Eggers, I am glad you posted your question on how can I turn my songs into profit here. We get this question a lot, and I thank you for the opportunity to answer that here on this forum.
              Never say never! You never know what someone is looking for. One man's trash... Mainstream country has changed over the years, but traditional country music will never die. So not knowing your type of music, we'll assume it is traditional country in nature. You have two avenues to choose from. Major companies and artist, or Independent. Both have their pros and cons. With the majors, if they like your material, and want to cut it, (make a recording) they have more money to work with. Whereas,indi's usually have a tight budget for their projects. No one can say, this company, or that company will record your songs. (Though you can waste your money on books and lists that say they can.) You just have to beat the bush like the rest of us. Record companies, publishers, artist, etc. But here are a few known facts...
              Always get the best demo you can afford. (Someone that can record your song for demonstration purposes.) Send no more then three at a time. And always always register your songs with the United States Copyright Office, (http://www.copyright.gov/) You can register up to ten songs (Billy Bob's Greatest Hits) for $30.00. (Poorboys copyrights is a thing of the past.) And don't look for overnight success. We tell folks all the time that the music business should never be enter into because you need the money, or to make a living with it. If these things come out of it, count your blessings.

Hi...Just reading your site and I do have a suggestion for those who like the more "tradtional" country music sound - give Sonny Burgess a chance. He's a new artist from Texas and some of us in southern Iowa, really appreciate his return to the more "traditional" sound of country music. On the flip side of this, is John W. Stone...he has the energy of Garth Brooks on stage, and his hit "Shame On Me" is a true country ballad. Not all new country is worth listening to, but neither is all old country. Hello; I am seeking information. I believe that there is still a place for real country music in the market without the slick, glitzy, heavy-beat psuedo rock & roll that is passed off today as country music. Not that today's music is bad, just that it really isn't true country & western music. Am I a dinosaur who is out of touch?
                At any rate, I found the Howard Vokes web site which seems to be saying the same things I believe. I came across this site because I'm looking for an agent for a few songs. I do NOT perform, I can't sing, don't play very well and have absolutely no illusions nor expectations about "stardom"; I'm too old and tired to go spend a lot of time in Nashville and I don't personally know anyone in the country music industry. But I do have a half-dozen pieces I came up with (for pleasure and a few close friends & family) and I believe there may still be some people out there that would enjoy this stuff. I wouldn't think of trying to market this if I didn't have bills to pay, but I am in a corner right now; trouble is, I can't market it and would need someone to act as agent.
              From what I've learned, there is no hope for unsolicited material most of the time. To make matters worse, the stuff I come up with does not have a heavy rock & roll beat and certainly is not "slick" like most of today's successes. My question is: Are there still people/companies/agents out there today who would do something with this type of music? If so, a word of advice or some information would be most appreciated; fact is, I'm sort of lost at this point on what I should do with my songs.

I am 29 and my dad has all volumes of The Tribute to the Grand Ol Opry stars of the 50s on VHS. I love them!! Anyways they are by Gannaway Productions and it says it is not affiliated with the Grand ol Opry on every show but on some tapes the artist refer to it as "The Country Show" But in some volumes they call it The Grand ol Opry. What ever happened to the music of the 50's; Hank williams, faron young, marty robbins, ray price,hank thompson ,hank lochlin, kitty wells,etc. That was basic country and was very enjoyable. The new breed of singers as clint black,garth brooks,etc all all showmen with limited talent and abilities. Todays performers are an insult to what country music represented. Performers like Hank Snow and the lyrics of his songs are nonexistant today. My father used to make recordings for them in the late 40's at 2920 S.W.22nd Terr. in Miami. I tried to get backstage once when they were in concert but it was impossible due to the crowds. Pete, I read your post, and have a couple of questions. Are we talking 50's Country music, or Rock & Roll? You also didn't say if you are seeking to contribute as a lover of the music, or to make a living with it. A professional site. Two, you need some background in the field. Who What When How, and Why. And third, a understanding that you may never get rich, or even broke doing this. P.S. Most historians are people that loved a certain style of music so much that they wanted to know everything about it and the people that made it happen. We have in our posession two copies of contracts from the "Louisiana Hayride" signed by Elvis and members of his family and band on the 6/11/54 and 8/9/55. We would like to know if it would be possible to find out the date approximative of the copies, due to the fact that they are printed on paper of size 215mm by 280mm and not the paper A4 which is 295mm by 210mm which has been used in Europe for at least 25 years. The paper the contracts are printed on has yellowed with age but as we have no idea of the size of paper used in th United States of America currently or in the past for standard photocopies we hoped you could help us. I cant help but notice that Iris Dement is still missing on your artist lost. WHY!!! In my opinion she is absolutely the best female singer-songwriter EVER! Even Merle Haggard called her the female Hank Williams. My two favorite albums {or cd's} are Iris' Infamous Angel and Johnny Horton's Honky Tonk Man. The songs in Infamous Angel are true traditional county in every sense of the word and Iris wrote most of them herself. I expect so called country music radio to pass her up because she is "too country" but this website should be backing her up. You all owe it to yourselves to acquire her material and check it out! I would like some information on a magazine "The Journal of the American Academy for the Preservation of Old-Time Country Music". I subscribed to this magazine in 1991. Would like to know how long it was published. The subscription included a membership in the Academy. I have the first 13 issues. It was published 6 times a year. My last issue is Feb. 1993. When I was in Anchorage in 1964 my favorite album was Slim Whitman's "There Stands the Glass". I have looked every where and can't find Slim singing the song much less an album of that name. I know I drank a lot ( the bars were open 23 hours a day), but I had never heard of Slim until then and I absolutely loved the album and listened to it all the time. Was there ever such an album? I found this address at the "Traditional County Hall of Fame" website.  I was wondering if you could help me find more information about the "Saturday Night Jamboree" circa 1938-39. I believe that My mother, Wanda Lee (Billie) Terry, sang there around that time. She says that she even "cut a record" with the help of Joe Manuel. I am looking for information on a country singer by the name of Juanita Rose. My band backed her a few times while playing at the Whispering Pines near Tawas City, Michigan in the early 80's. im surprised to hear about the passing of lois frizzell. i knew her briefly in the late 1980's while she was in hawaii. she was attempting to follow in her late fathers footsteps and i was the lead guitar player in her band. we pimarily played "lefty" songs. i also remember some talk about her being married at some point to robert duvall, though i was never able to confirm that in any way. if anybody is interested, i have some photos of lois and the band in hawaii. i can be reached at alleng@cncnet.com

Hello. I was wondering if anyone remembers a guy named Rodney Culpepper. He was chosen as Bass Player of the Year by the Academy of Country Music in 1978 and was nominated several other years. I understand that he was a studio musician in Nashville, I think. He was my birth father and he died in 1986. She fought a brave and hard battle with cancer, and stayed true in heart and firm in her beliefs to the end. Cordell opened so many doors for women in the music business. You have Carl Smith on there, but you have Calvin Grant Shofner as his real name. Carl's real name is Carl Smith; Cal Smith's real name is Calvin Grant Shofner. Also one thta I seen missing from the list is the great Bill Phillips. Bill is one of my all time favorites and to me was the best. I was born in the mountains of W.Va., and recently I have written songs that came from that section of the country...a couple of these songs could be classified as country folk songs, w/religous messages, such as #1, YOU SHOULD HAVE HEARD MY MOMMA PRAY [a song which I wrote about the early 1940s, when overnight we saw the three oldest boys of our home, leave to fight in WW II. Information on the Johnny Cash Memorial Day show at saturday in southern Germany. I will perform there too at the open stage, other performers are The Johnny Cash Revival Band from Slovakia, Texas Heat from Cologne, Germany and Mandy Strobel (a german performer who recorded his last CD in Nashville).
              The show will start at 3 pm european middle time they will have vendors and will provide movies, clips and music - everything related to Johnny Cash.
              Concert will start at 5 pm with the open stage where i will perform (i came to that event through accident this week, that's why just open stage, but at least i will perform ;-) ) and maybe some others but they dont have any other announcements. 6 pm the other three will perform, but i dont know in what order, probably first the Johnny Cash Revival Band, then Texas Heat and last one will be Mandy Strobel. Hello I am researching information on a lost john miller and the allied Kentuckians from the 1940s. what I know so far he was John A Miller, he is credited with writing a song called Rainbow at Midnight that was covered by Ernest Tubb, and Jimmy Rodgers. I do have a copy of this also Earl Scruggs played in 1945 for about 3 months,I did contact Louise Scruggs who was going to ask her dad what he remembered about him, but she hasn't got back to me yet. I'm a Waylon Jennings groupie!! For the last 25 years I went to every concert I could afford!! I got to know all the crew and even Waylon and Jessi!! I was so sad when he passed away. The good news is his son Shooter has a record deal on Universal South. He has been opening some shows with Pat green and his album comes out in February. After the passing of my mother in 2002, I have been in charge of the sorting and cleaning of the things she collected in the 80 yrs. of her life. I have recently found a small bag of programs, music books, and pictures, many of which have the autographs of most of the artists.    The National Hillbilly Jamboree/WLS Barn Dance programs are only 1 folded page. The show was produced and presented by Jack Andrews. The cost of the programs was .15c. Some of the acts listed; Blue Ridge Mountain Gang, Curley Carson, Woody Woodels Rangers, Mac and Bob, Wendell Hall, Grace Wilson, Pie Plant Pete, and many others. Both programs contain autographs of almost the full casts. I also have a picture of the 1942 WWVA Jamboree Good Will Tour cast. Some of the autographs I can make out are; Doc Williams, Lew Clawson, Little Shirley, Curly Miller, Sunflower, Brother Cy, and again many more. An issue of National Hillbilly News. May 1946. 8X10 pic of Carson Robison and the Buckaroos, and Brownie and Slim Carter's Anniversary Album No. 3. Songs and pictures of your favorite radio stars. I am not interested in getting rid of these right now but am curious if there is a value, both historically in regards to country music and radio and of course price wise. A true Texas Cowboy, and advertised as such, Edward L. Crain was born in Texas in 1901. He worked ranches as well as cattle drives during the 1920s and '30s, and also played guitar, fiddle, and mandolin. He performed on various radio programs in Dallas, and recorded several sides for Columbia during the early '30s (his version of "Bandit Cole Younger" was later released on Harry Smith's 1952 folksong collection Anthology of American Folk Music). He made a return to recording late in life, releasing another version of "Bandit Cole Younger" for the American Record Corporation in 1970, while he was living in Oregon where he is believed to have died.

He was a WLS pastor which my dad enjoyed listening to very much. Due to not knowing any better in my youth, I taped over his tapes with Beach Boys, Beatles and other groups of my time. PA is my home state and just returned back from a visit there. Live in TN now since 1997. Practically every Bluegrass Fest I attend, someone sings Willie Roy! During the mid 80's, I had the chance to meet Little Jimmy Dickins. He came into the store I was working at. Along with his roadies. One of which I asked isn't that Jimmy Dickins? His reply was "No that is Klint Eastwood". I did get to meet Mr. Dickins and buy him a quart of Stroh's and a pack of More's. Long Red. Boy the fun that I had. I am from a small town in southeastern kentucky and the one thing that I would lke to say is that Dwight Yokam has absolutely got to be my favorite singer of all time. The reason for this in being is because of his great voice which I think chimes with the angels. I am 28 years old and have been truely devoted since around the age of 10 or so. I just located the site featuring the WLS barn dance (Traditional Country Hall of Fame) and enjoyed reading about all of the performers. I didn't see anything listed concerning the two young sisters Dorothy and Bernice Silvey who sang as a duet under a sisters act. The sisters were the nieces of the bass player Jack Taylor. Do you know anything about these sisters and is there a photo of them available? I hope to hear from you because these sisters ended up being my Mother-in- law (Dorothy) and my Aunt by marriage. Somewhere in their collection they did have a large photo of all the performers gathered on stage that if I recollect right, included the likes of Gene Autry and Roy Rogers and George Gobel and many others that went on to fame.               Back around July 2002 I posted a note about a project I was working on then to release for the first time since the original 78s and 45s, 30 of the early tracks of Frank Ifield. At the time we had planned to call the album "Frank Ifield Sings Country & Standards" but it was eventually released as "Frank Ifield Sings Country & Classics". The digital remastering of the early records came up just great thanks to Bruce Sheldrick of Crows Nest, Sydney. The album is available in the UK and Australia on EMI. The UK number is 72435 41734 2 4. It can be bought through importers or on the internet. You might also like to check out www.frankifield.com where you can find out about Frank and hear various radio shows amongst the many that he and I have done together to introduce people to Australian country music.

              I am delighted to be compiling and writing notes for CDs on the UK-based Jasmine label which is now available through selected outlets in the USA and Australia. Jasmine specialises in vintage material and has a lot of country music in their catalogue. What I admire about them is that they are not a full-priced label but take loving care over the remastering of tracks - they don't dub tracks from other people's CD releases!! Their CDs also have colourful sleeves and informative notes.
              Recently, I have worked on several albums including CDs on Country Brother Acts, Yodelling ("I Love To Yodel - The Best Of Country Yodel Vol 2"), Slim Whitman ("The Man With the Singing Guitar Vol 1") and Marc Williams ("The Forgotten Singing Cowboy"). The yodelling album is going really well and we are delighted that so many people are interested in the old records.
              We are currently planning other vintage country releases including a second volume of Slim Whitman, a third volume of yodelling and a possible 4CD boxed set on singing cowboys.

What a great site!! I do go back a lo-ooo-ng time. I saw Bill and Charlie Monroe when I was a small 5 yr old on the way to Mobile with my Mother and Brother and we stopped in Paintsville Ky. The Porter at the hotel told my brother and me to come down to the station in the basement cause there was a radio station and some hillbilly musicians. ( i am sorry if this is politically incorrect but it was hillbilly back then in 1933 ) We later moved to Birmingham and at one birthday Hank Penny and his Radio Cowboys came for the party. Question?? Is Penny still among the mortals ? I saw him years ago in Nashville but thats been a few years back. Running thru some of the notes today I can answer a couple. Patsy Montana has a museum dedicated to her up the road a few miles from here in Pineville Mo. Ernest Tubb recorded Soldiers Last Letter. Leon McAuliffe was a friend of mine and died In Claremore Ok a few years ago. Had a radio station in Rogers Ar along with anot her old friend Smokey Dacus the old Bob Wills Drummer. Think they are both in the Cowboy Hall in Ok City if im not mistaken. I have played Guitar over 60 years and had a chance to meet about everyone in the Senior age bracket over the years. Still do get to Mt view Ar and a number of the Northwest Ar festivities as well as SW Mo happenings. Went to Nashville in 53 after college on the GI bill but was told at WSM they didnt cotton to College Kids and the only one there at the time was Bill Anderson!! Looking for a song from pre-sixties era that might be classified as folk or country. We think the title is something like "Daddy's Here" or "Daddy's There" but aren't sure. Some one thought it might be Sleepin Beauty by Jimmie Dean, but I found the lyrics to that and that doesn't seem to fit the description my mother gave me. The song it done in a male voice in a narrative "Talking" style rather than singing. My mom could only remember bits of the lyrics about a little talking to her Dad about growing up. She says to her dad things like, "Daddy, there's a boy outside. His name is Tommy, he wants to play with me. Can I Daddy, can I please?" and various boy names as she grows up. Sometimes she gets hurt and Daddy says, "It's alright, (or never fear?) Daddys here (or there)." Until "Daddy, there's a man outside, his name is Johnnie (not sure about names) he wants to marry me. But I'm scared." And the dad repeats the don't worry Daddy's here chorus part. All of this is in the male voice and is talked like a story he's retelling. I have an eleven year old grandaughter that has sang in churches,local events, and most recently at the ohio valley opry in morgan county, On june 26 she will be singing at North Bend State Park Amphitheater in Cairo W.V. She has made a demo c.d. but has never made a full recording yet. my question is how do i know whether to invest in a full recording or not? Subject: R.I.P. Garland Frady
Sad news just in about Garland Frady, from one of his oldest friends Ace Tipton. Garland Frady died on May 26, 2004 at the Wake Forrest University Hospital in North Carolina I talked to his brother Lee and he said they were going to cremate him and were not going to have any service of any kind.
              Garland has been living back in the South since the 1980s, but made most of his career while living on the West Coast. He moved to Los Angeles in the mid 1960s, cutting singles for Filmways (1966) and Dot (around 1967).
              A solid singer, he was mainly part of the Valley club scene, and became somewhat of a local at the Palomino. In 1969 he became part of the B-band, the second version of Red Rhodes Detours which played Mondays and Sundays. The Monday night saw each member front the group in turn for a month or so, Garland of course got his run.
              After Red Rhodes left the Palomino at the end of 1969, Garland got the Sundays with his own band in the early 1970s. During the 1970s he recorded for GNP Crescendo and the short lived Countryside label which issued his only long player in 1973.
              In the 1980s he all but retired, and was working in a vacuum repair shop and driving up to Vasilia, CA to work a music gig on the weekend. Then I heard he went to Nashville for a while and finally ended up in Atlanta, GA working with his brother in some kind of business.
              Eventually in the 1990s he revived his career, and cut a series of self released CDs and cut track for obscure label samplers. He even had a band up to 2002, mabe even into last year.
              He had been unwell for about a year or so, but the last few months saw his condition escelate and his was mainly living in a hospice. Regards, Jason Odd

I recently bought a classic guitar at a fund raiser in Brevard County, Florida for the Association for Retarded Citizens that Alan Jackson signed.               The Light Crust Doughboys, generally acknowledged as the originators of Western Swing, are perhaps the most-honored musical group in Texas. Winners of a 2003 Grammy for "We Called Him Mr. Gospel Music: The James Blackwood Tribute Album," their many other honors include five other Grammy nominations, two nominations for the prestigious gospel music Dove Award, and being named to the Texas Cowboys Hall Of Fame, as well as "Official Music Ambassadors" for the State of Texas by the Texas Legislature.
              "Cowboy Days Of Summer" will showcase the Doughboys¹ Western Swing standards, with featured performers Jerry Elliott, Bill Simmons, John Walden, Jim Baker, and Art Greenhaw. The Doughboys Brass and Reed Ensemble will also be on hand to provide a big-band sound to the Doughboys¹ Western Swing.

Unable to find any sort of link here for my penfriend Ginny Wright,who was a famous country singer in the 50s and 60s. As she has her own website on Yahoo where copies of her CDs can be ordered it seems very strange. The site is full of pictures,which is the main object and there are 100s of them. The website was put up in Georgia and the photos came from her so there are many of her as a child. Of all the Yahoo groups I've seen virtually all are pretty absymmal affairs.The ones for Barbara Mandrell, Hank Williams and Lyn Anderson seem an insult to the artistes. Its not really a discussion board like the Jim Reeves ones but is actually full up,all 600 mgs. Many of Ginny's contemporaries are included,those she worked with including Elvis and Jim Reeves. As her English representative I need to constantly find her more members and as an incentive I uploaded about 200 pictures of square dancers as Ginny used to be one. This was so I could get the site mentioned on Pettipond and we got a lot of members, most of whom sound like cross dressers but really we want country fans. We also managed to track down Ginny's one time duet partner Tom Tall who was sent copies of Ginny's CDs and there are 2 famous names on there in the Tatters and Dulcie Younger.
